Sortering my home library, I stumbled upon a science-science magazine of LKI (best computer games). In the November issue of 2008, I saw a review of the game Collapse. Basically, the authors praised the game, which their phrase eloquently talks about: “An excellent alloy of several genres, supplemented by successful finds”. Unfortunately, I was not able to play at the time of the exit, or after a few years. And recently, one day, by pure chance, I saw this game on Steam at a good discount. The memories and the desire to try out what failed before before before. Having bought and played in the first brainchild of the Ukrainian studio Creteam, there was a desire not just to shake the air, but to leave your review on the “paper”. Well, let’s start ..
Again a disaster in the future ..
Ukraine, Kyiv, 2013. In the center of the capital, an unreasonable phenomenon occurred by anyone – a large territory turned into an abnormal zone as a result of an incomprehensible outbreak. A lot of many died, and those who survived told all sorts of fables. Of course, scientists did not stand aside and tried in every possible way to study this anomaly, but they were not particularly lucky – only all kinds of hypotheses about the nature of this phenomenon had to be content with only their kinds of hypotheses. Soon the terrible began – creatures similar to people and all kinds of insects began to attack citizens. It was decided to declare “quarantine” and build a wall around the anomaly, and put machine guns around so that no one can go out and go into the zone. However, here it was not everything thought out – people who did not manage to evacuate remained inside. But a person is a creature that adapt to everything. A year later, people began to unite and create clans, headed by the Lord. The place where they lived was called the “dump”, and the epicenter of the anomalies – the “hole”. After 83 years, or rather in 2096, all the lords of the clans are mysteriously perish, and only Rodan survived, however, lost his memory (a hackneyed stamp. ). And now he, as well as us, has to find out who is behind the explosion, what the beautiful stranger Elena wants, who is a scientist Zinovsky and how he will affect the lives of people in a landfill.

The plot is not unusual. He is lines, and we simply go from one point to another, from one lord to another, first one, then with a partner, then again one. Something similar to a plot turn is waiting for us only closer to the end, and then it is set somehow dull. From time to time we will come across additional materials-diaries, clippings and audio recordings in which we will learn something from the game universe. Oddly enough, but reading and listening to it is all quite interesting. The only thing that confuses is their number – only 12 pieces (I tried to look at each corner, but maybe I missed it – I repent …), although this is perhaps a plus – for this reason they do not bother. In addition, there are also calls-whatever the future and something similar to the radio and heroes should be. In them we will also find out various information. Most often we communicate with Elena – a Komsomol member, an athlete and just a beauty. The beauty is so much that Rodan, when he is paired with Elena, is embarrassed to personally ask her a question and begins to name the communicator. It looks very strange from the outside. It seems to me that if he had a modern mobile phone, he would not even call her, and he sent messages to the messenger at a time when she stands nearby ..
I believe that in 2020 it will not be a good tone to talk about the 2008 game schedule. But even today the game looks good. The developers worked on post -apocalyptic Kiev, and the result came out pretty good, it recognizes the atmosphere of the post -Soviet space. This is told to us residential buildings in the form of high -rise buildings, as well as interesting posters in the spirit of the Soviet era “as working and earned”. The objects by which we know today Kyiv are also very organically inscribed. This is the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, where we need to turn on the brains to solve the riddle, and the Kyiv Passenger Station, where we are waiting for a serious battle, and the Maidan of Nezalevo with the statue of the Archangel Mikhail, where we need to show the monsters everything that we learned earlier.
It is a pity that you can not move out of the “landfill”.
The gameplay can be divided into two parts: “We shoot” and “We fight on swords”. It seems to be varied and interesting, but in practice everything is felt differently. Shooting is dynamic, you have to do all sorts of rifts and evasions, so as not to fall under the bullets. Enemies attack from all sides, so you must always be in motion. However, the weapon has a large scatter of bullets (especially the machine gun), which is why it is not easy to get through the enemy in the distance. At the same time, some weapons, when you try to shoot, aiming, instead of a clear picture in the center, we observe a stain from the shots, which closes the target and beats through the eyes with its flashes. Mercenaries and elite soldiers do not shine with their minds-they either sit out for some kind of obstacle and have to approach them and shoot at point blank range, or run to you in a way, t.e. Two tactics in the head of these fighters. And sometimes he’s going completely kukukha – then the arrows will begin to jump still instead of hiding, then in a narrow opening the swordsman cannot pass (apparently the width of the shoulders interferes).
But besides shooting enemies, there are swordsmen. Though they are different in appearance, they have one tactics – to run and kill you. If you think that it’s easier to shoot them from afar, then I hasten to upset you – the creators intentionally made them to fight with mercenaries, minions and generals only on swords. You can shoot at them, but, firstly, you will inflict much less damage to them than opponents with firearms, and secondly, cartridges may not be enough for everyone. You have to use a sword that is inconvenient to fight. There seems to be various combo for killing enemies, but I don’t want to use them. It is somehow strange when the enemy is in front of you, and for the combo you need to pinch the key back or to the left. Plus the inconvenience is the inability to move in the block mode. It would only be better, add the developers to the game of parrying, as well as dismemberment-we are still smeared with a sword, and not a stick with a wooden. You also need to be as careful as possible – there is more damage from opponents of close combat than from shooters. Five enemies surround, everyone will make a poke in you – and you are a corpse. It would be better to give the opportunity to wear another additional firearm, which I personally lacked. Therefore, we take a “hornet” pistol or a dragonfly submachine gun in your hands and begin a long shooting of melee (especially since this weapon has endless ammunition).
In addition to enemies, there are monsters enemies. They are also stupid, they just run to the protagonist and try to hit. The monsters are not original: beetles, mutants-lambs, arachnid creatures and a mutant with a back their head, similar to a stranger. The same thing here is better to shoot than to fight on swords. In addition to cold and firearms, we have various energy facilities that will help a lot in the battles. Then we will create a copy of our own so that the enemies are distracted only by it, then we will slow down (well, where without it …) or hit the enemies with lightning, so that the life of the sweet does not seem to them. But it is best to use the “vacuum” – the enemy is falling, and this is a good time to finish it off immediately. Quickly and the enemy of pain will not feel (probably).

The whole game some opponents are replaced by another, from firearms we switch to cold, sometimes we solve simple tasks. At the end of the levels, some boss awaits us, but they are not completely remembered with the exception of only the first-a huge guard, who, incidentally, seemed to me the most difficult. But then suddenly closer to the end of the game we are forced to engage in acrobatics. And this is the worst part of the game! The jumps are made so badly that it is not always possible to get to the platform carefully and there is either a shortage or a flight. I absolutely do not understand why it was necessary to insert it into the game. After all, one could beat it differently, without torment and extra deaths of the hero. Everything is as usual – they wanted to diversify, but it turned out, as always.
One of the most important advantages of the game is music. Electronic bits perfectly complement everything that happens on the screen. The dynamics of the battle increases by 100% to the music of the Newtone group. You can describe the music with this expression: “I want to dance to some music, to relax to another, and under the soundtrack“ Collapse ” – shoot at enemies and evade enemy fire”.
I additionally want to say about optimization – it is terrible! Already at the 15th minute of the game, I saw the error and my desktop. And in all 11 hours the game flew out twenty times for sure, and it was out of the blue (only in two cases the hero fell into texture). Thanks to largely timely conservation points, this was not so critical, but sometimes it turned out that the game flew right before maintaining progress, which was due to which it was terribly unpleasant and disgusting at heart. Despite the fact that many on the Internet write that “has gone through the whole game, there were no sorties and bugs”, in my Stimov version with this great trouble.

Absolutely opposite feelings tearing me. On the one hand – a beautiful and native environment, dynamic contractions, peppy music, on the other – departures, and enemies, uninteresting plot, an uncomfortable fight on swords. But playing it is still interesting and a couple of evenings of your time she deserves. However, I do not think that you will have a desire to go through the game again-it is still weak compared to other games that were published in 2008 and later.
